Vehicle bodybuilder Paneltex has partnered with hybrid power specialist Fischer Panda UK to deliver a new state-of-the-art NHS mammography trailer for Oxford University Hospitals to join the NHS Foundation Trust’s fleet of next generation mobile breast screening units.
Incorporating the latest green technology from Fischer Panda UK to achieve optimum efficiency, the complex Paneltex-built trailer is designed specifically to reduce maintenance and operating costs, while creating a vibration-free and temperature-controlled environment to maximise the accuracy of the vital digital screening systems and to enhance comfort for patients.
Hull-based Paneltex developed the 12m length digital screen trailer, which will enable screening in the Oxford region, complete with a private X-ray room containing digital mammography machines, variable air conditioning, a central reception area, a kitchen facility with hot running water, music audio systems, changing cubicle areas and interior fittings and furnishings supplied to current NHS regulations.
Health and safety is another key feature of the new Paneltex trailers, with the access steps meeting full building regulations. Access steps are provided to all entrance/exit doors, which have shallow non-slip steps, warm to the touch double handrails and a large platform area to facilitate entry and exit from the trailer. Lighting is provided in the step treads to the main door access and, in conjunction with the overhead exterior lighting, makes for safe use of the steps at all times.
Sam Berridge, European Sales Manager, Paneltex, said: “As a long-term provider of mobile breast screening/mammography trailers to NHS Trusts around the country, Paneltex is delighted to be working with Fischer Panda UK to create this new generation of trailers. A home-grown UK company, we understand the value of the services the NHS provides, and do our best to ensure that they can work in as comfortable an environment as possible while still keeping lifetime vehicle costs low. This collaboration with Fischer Panda UK has allowed us to facilitate the highest standard of care in an environmentally friendly fashion, with their new hybrid power system which, on top of the environmental and lifetime cost benefits, also reduces uncomfortable floor vibrations and background noise.”
The customised Fischer Panda UK solution includes a Fischer Panda UK DC variable speed, highly efficient battery-charging generator – the AGT 12000 48v PVMV-N with side/underslung radiator option. The system also incorporates two Victron Quattro 48v 15000/200-100/100 inverter/chargers, MG Li-Ion LFP 24v 7.2kWh batteries with MG BMS and integrated Victron BMS for local and remote APP based monitoring.
Chris Fower, of Fischer Panda UK, said: “We were delighted to be involved in this exciting build and to work with the experts at Paneltex. The focus for the NHS is around cutting maintenance and operating costs. Our system delivers on this and results in substantial reduced generator run time therefore saving fuel, servicing and parts costs.
“Mammography trailers were traditionally fitted with large inefficient and underloaded generators. The new NHS trailers are to be fitted with latest green tech hybrid power packs, utilising smaller and more efficient DC generators, powering a larger Li-Ion battery bank, with 230v supply powered through an onboard inverter system with mains charging available for plug in.”
Renowned for its exceptionally quiet and compact generators, Verwood-based Fischer Panda UK is globally respected as a supplier and installer of generators, integrated mobile power solutions, hybrid electric propulsion systems and air-conditioning systems for the marine, vehicle and military markets.
