A new initiative to support boat owners in the move to electric propulsion has been launched by the Electric Boat Association.
Effective immediately, free annual EBA membership will be granted to all UK owners of new electric boats.
Joining up provides a range of benefits including: technical information; full details of the range of electric boats and equipment available worldwide; the opportunity to participate in rallies, cruises and social events; free information sheets on a wide range of technical and practical issues; electric boat insurance premiums at a lower rate compared to standard marine insurance and a further 10% premium discount to EBA members; and a friendly source of help and advice from other members.
EBA chairman Stuart James said: “We are constantly looking for ways to champion the adoption of electric power generation technologies for UK boat owners. The free membership offer is a really useful benefit for new electric boat owners following their commitment to a more sustainable method of propulsion. During the past few years, the interest in the adoption of renewable energy and new technologies continues to grow. I am excited to support the uptake of hybrid and electric boats and encourage anyone considering the move to contact the EBA for more information.”
The new scheme has been backed by system suppliers Fischer Panda UK and Leoch Battery UK, two of the leading companies meeting customer demand for the latest electric propulsion technology.
Integrated marine system specialist Fischer Panda UK is perfectly placed to answer the increasing interest in alternatives to traditional petrol or diesel drive systems with its range of full package, electric drive hybrid systems. The leading solutions incorporate either a Fischer Panda ‘Easy Box’ Electric Drive System or Bellmarine system, an AGT DC genset or AC generator, and a Mastervolt BMS (Battery Management System).
With the marine sector a mainstay of Leoch Battery UK’s business, the company offers a wide range of options for battery power for the new generation of hybrid and electric boats that are long lasting, safe and highly efficient.
Proving particular popular for inland waterway vessels but suitable for a range of boats, electric power can provide all the power and manoeuvrability needed for cruising. Electric propulsion systems dramatically reduce annual maintenance costs over standard petrol or diesel engines. Fuel costs plummet with the systems providing very quiet, environmentally-friendly operation.
The EBA looks after the interests of electric boat owners, helping with issues such as waterway access, charging points, slipway facilities, reduced licence fees and the Boat Safety Scheme.
