A FWF automatically back flushes the system after very operation, it also automatically re-flushes the unit every 7 days if the boat is left unattended providing there is freshwater in the tank and the boat is connected to shore power. This removes the need to "pickle" membranes for short periods.
The FWF uses the ship's on-board water system to supply fresh water through the FWF, Carbon Filter, which removes any chlorine, and then flushes the water-maker.
