Typical Motor Boat Installation. We offer a 'Gold Standard' installation service for all of our products with workmanship and materials guaranteed for five years. A typical generator installation represents 3-4 days work by qualified and trained personnel. If you would rather install the generator yourself then here is an axample of how it should be done. Step 1 - read the manual. Make sure you have all items to hand.
2. The skin-fittings are the only items that need to be fitted while the boat is out of the water. For most small generators up to 30kva you will need a 3/4" inlet and if you opt for a super-silent exhaust water separator you will need a 1" outlet below the waterline. Once these are in and the seacocks are closed, the boat can go back in.
3. Select a spot for the generator - in this case the boatbuilder has welded in supports for a generator so we know this is probably the best spot. The engine room with its extra soundproofing is nearly always the best - this will vary from boat to boat though. Consideration has to be given to balance and trim of the boat, also access for servicing, not only the generator but other equipment in the vicinity. 3. It may be an idea to run in as many services as you can before putting the generator in place, ie water, fuel, battery cable, AC cable, remote panel loom cable. It will almost certainly be more difficult with the generator in situ! Make sure the service side of the generator is accessible and that you can bolt it down and make the connections.
4. Looks very busy...
5. But actually, it's not so bad.
6. Here's the independant start battery - check whether the generator has its own charging output. If it doesn't, you'll need an auxiliary output (4A) from your main charger or a small independant charger running off the generator output. Alternatively you can connect the generator to the 12V house or engine batteries. As a rough guide: motorboats - engine start battery. Sailboats - house battery.
7. The generator overload MCB is on the left, the AC distribution breakers are on the right with RCD protection. Qualified electrical personnel only!
8. Generator remote start/stop panel in light grey with manual shore/off/gen changeover switch below and the 12V start battery switch below that. All positioned near the boat instrumentation to make things convenient.
9. With the capsule lids on, ready to run.
10. It's a textbook installation. Nice and quiet too. Make sure you fill in and send off the protocal sheets from the manual - this is so that we can see what you have done and can issue the warranty documents. | |||||
